Online hifz course: memorise the Quran with a clear plan
Hifz is memorising the Quran by heart. In this online hifz course you recite to your own teacher every lesson, follow a revision plan that protects what you have already memorised, and move at the pace that suits your life.
One-to-one · 30-minute lessons · UK time · from £25 a month
Hifz pathways
| Pathway | Good for |
|---|---|
| Selected surahs | Adults and children who want more surahs for salah, or particular surahs such as Al-Mulk, Al-Kahf or Yasin |
| Juz Amma | Most children's first goal: the short surahs of the 30th juz, starting with the last 10 surahs |
| Several juz | Students building steadily towards a larger portion, for example Juz Tabarak and Juz Qad Sami'a |
| The whole Quran | Students committing to full hifz over several years |
How each hifz lesson works
Each lesson combines three parts, and all three matter:
- Sabaq (new lesson): the new lines you have prepared, recited from memory and corrected.
- Sabaq para (recent revision): the pages memorised over the last few weeks, which are still settling.
- Manzil (older revision): earlier memorisation, revised in rotation so nothing fades.
Your teacher sets the size of each part. The pace is decided by what you can keep, not by how quickly you can add new pages.
Hifz for adults and working professionals
Adults memorise well when the plan is realistic. Smaller daily portions, a fixed time (often early morning, before work), and more revision than new memorisation work better than long sessions at the weekend. One-to-one lessons can be booked early in the morning or late in the evening in UK time, and the teacher adapts the plan when work gets busy.
How long hifz takes
The standard Madinah mushaf has 604 pages. The table shows how long new memorisation alone would take at different paces:
| Pace | New memorisation only |
|---|---|
| Half a page a day, 5 days a week | about 56 months (4.6 years) |
| 1 page a day, 5 days a week | about 28 months (2.3 years) |
| 8 to 10 pages a week | about 15 months (1.3 years) |
| 2 pages a day, 5 days a week | about 14 months (1.2 years) |
Real timelines are longer, because revision takes time and some weeks are lighter than others. Try our hifz planner to estimate your own plan.
Revision that lasts
Most people who lose their hifz stopped revising, not memorising. Your teacher keeps a record of what you have memorised and schedules manzil so every page returns regularly. Reciting memorised portions in your own prayers is one of the best forms of revision.

Frequently asked questions
Is it possible to do hifz online and become a hafiz?
Yes. Hifz depends on reciting to a teacher who listens closely every lesson and on a disciplined revision routine. Both work over video, and one-to-one lessons mean the teacher hears every line you recite.
Do I need tajweed before starting hifz?
You should be able to read fluently with correct pronunciation, because mistakes memorised early are hard to remove. If your reading needs work, your teacher will combine hifz with tajweed or recommend starting there.
Is it obligatory to memorise the whole Quran?
Scholars describe memorising the whole Quran as a communal obligation: it must be done by some members of the community, not by every individual. Every Muslim does need enough for their prayers, beginning with Surah Al-Fatiha.
Can I memorise using transliteration?
Transliteration cannot show every Arabic sound, so it leads to mistakes that are hard to fix later. Learning to read the Arabic script first, through Noorani Qaida, is the reliable route.
Can a female teacher teach hifz?
Yes. Choose a female teacher when you book the free trial, for yourself or your daughter.
