Quran classes for families in Belfast
Northern Ireland's Muslim community is small, about 10,900 people at the 2021 census, and much of it lives in and around Belfast, including many families who arrived more recently from the Middle East, South Asia and Africa, and students at Queen's University and Ulster University.
Outside the city, in towns such as Antrim, Larne or Ballynahinch, a regular Quran class can be hard to find, which is where one-to-one online lessons help most.
In Belfast, many Muslim families are relatively new arrivals, and children may be learning English at school while speaking Arabic or another language at home. Teachers explain in English, with Arabic, Urdu and Bengali available.
