Where to start

Almost every revert starts with Noorani Qaida, a step-by-step book that teaches the Arabic letters, the vowels and how they join. Once you can read words confidently, you move on to reading the mushaf in our Quran reading course. You do not need to know any Arabic before your first lesson.

Many reverts also want to learn the short surahs used in prayer as soon as possible. Your teacher can teach those alongside the alphabet, so you can pray while you are still learning to read.

Transliteration or Arabic script?

Transliteration (Arabic written in English letters) helps for the first few weeks, especially for the words of salah. But it cannot show every Arabic sound, and learners who rely on it for long find it harder to read properly later. We use it as a bridge, then move you to the Arabic script as soon as you are ready.

Learning salah alongside the Quran

Prayer is usually the first thing a new Muslim wants to get right. In the same lessons, your teacher can walk you through wudu, the positions of salah and what to recite, and check you are doing it correctly on camera. Our guide on how to pray salah covers the steps in writing. For a wider foundation, add Islamic studies.

Frequently asked questions

I cannot read any Arabic. Can I still start?

Yes. Most reverts start exactly there. Your teacher begins with the first letter of the alphabet in Noorani Qaida and explains everything in English.

How long until I can read the Quran?

It varies with how often you have lessons and practise. With regular lessons, many learners finish the Qaida within a few months and then start reading the mushaf.

Can I ask basic questions about Islam in my lessons?

Yes. Questions about prayer, fasting, family or daily life are welcome. If you want structured lessons on these, add Islamic studies.

Can I have a female teacher?

Yes. Choose a female teacher when you book the free trial.

How much does it cost?

From £25 a month for two 30-minute lessons a week, and the first three days are free. See pricing.
