Course
Learn Arabic and Quran online: a Quranic Arabic course
Most of us can read the Quran long before we understand it. A Quranic Arabic course closes that gap: you learn the words and grammar that appear most often in the Quran, taught through the verses you already recite, so every prayer starts to make sense.
One-to-one · 30-minute lessons · UK time · from £25 a month
Why learn Quranic Arabic
A small number of words make up a large share of the Quran, because words like ٱللَّه, رَبّ and قَالَ appear again and again. Learn the most common ones first, and you start to recognise meaning on almost every page. Here are some you will meet in your first lessons:
| Word | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ٱللَّه | Allah |
| رَبّ | Lord |
| قَالَ | he said |
| كَانَ | he was / it was |
| ءَامَنُوا۟ | they believed |
| يَوْم | day |
| أَرْض | earth |
| عِلْم | knowledge |
Understanding also changes how you recite. When you know what a verse means, you pause in the right places (see stop signs in the Quran) and recite with more feeling.
What the course covers
| Level | What you study |
|---|---|
| Level 1: Foundations | High-frequency Quranic words, pronouns, the definite article, and simple sentences such as Al-Fatihah and the last surahs. |
| Level 2: Verbs and patterns | Past and present verbs, commands, and the three-letter roots that let you recognise families of words. |
| Level 3: Grammar in context | The core of nahw (sentence grammar) and sarf (word forms), practised directly on longer passages. |
| Level 4: Reading with understanding | Working through surahs with a dictionary and translation, checking your own understanding line by line. |
Lessons are one-to-one and 30 minutes long, in UK time, on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. Your teacher explains in English, and can also explain in Urdu, Arabic or Bengali. If you want the meaning of whole surahs rather than the grammar behind them, see our Quran tafseer classes.
Arabic for children
Children usually start once they can read Arabic fluently. Lessons use short, familiar surahs, simple Arabic words for everyday things and plenty of games and repetition. Many families pair it with Islamic studies or the online madrasa.
Certificates
This course is not an accredited diploma or university qualification. If you need a record of your study, for example for a school or a personal portfolio, we can confirm your level and the lessons you completed in writing. Learners aiming for a formal recitation qualification can read about ijazah.

Frequently asked questions
Is Quranic Arabic different from modern Arabic?
They share the same alphabet, grammar and most vocabulary. Quranic (classical) Arabic has some words and styles that are rare today, and modern Arabic has everyday words the Quran does not use. This course focuses on the Arabic of the Quran.
Do I need to read Arabic before starting?
You should be able to read Arabic script, even slowly. If you cannot yet, start with Noorani Qaida; many learners do both side by side.
Will I learn to speak Arabic?
The course is designed for understanding the Quran rather than conversation. You will build vocabulary and grammar that help with spoken Arabic too, but speaking practice is not the focus.
Is there a free Arabic course?
Your first three days of lessons are free. After that, plans start from £25 a month. See pricing.
Do you give a certificate or diploma?
This is not an accredited diploma. If you need a record of your study, ask us and we can confirm your level and the lessons you completed in writing.
