Quran classes for families in Liverpool

In 1889, Abdullah Quilliam opened the Liverpool Muslim Institute on Brougham Terrace in West Derby Road, widely regarded as the first mosque in England. Since then the city has built one of Britain's oldest Muslim communities, with Yemeni, Somali and Arab families around Toxteth, Granby and Lodge Lane, and many more who arrived later.

About 26,000 Liverpool residents, 5.3% of the city, are Muslim according to the 2021 census, and Arabic is the city's most common community language after English.

Liverpool is also a major university city, home to the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores and Liverpool Hope, with many Muslim students from across the world.

Students living around Smithdown Road, Kensington and the city centre can book early or late lessons, pause over the holidays and keep the same teacher when they return.

Arabic-speaking teachers for Liverpool families

For Yemeni, Somali and other Arabic-speaking families, Arabic-speaking teachers are available, so a child can hear explanation in the family language. Children who already speak Arabic often move quickly from reading to understanding through our Quranic Arabic course.
