Quran classes for families in Margate
About 2,100 Thanet residents, 1.5% of the district, are Muslim according to the 2021 census, with families of many backgrounds, most of them in Margate and Ramsgate.
Thanet is the north-east tip of Kent, a string of seaside towns linked by high-speed trains to London, and many parents work in hospitality, health and care.
With only a few small classes on the island, families in Broadstairs, Birchington and Minster often have no regular Quran class nearby.
Families working seasonal hospitality shifts can change lesson days by arrangement, and children keep the same teacher.
Choosing the right teacher in a small community
Online, families can choose a male or female teacher, and one who explains in Arabic, Bengali or Urdu, which can be hard to find locally. Lessons run from Noorani Qaida to Quran reading and tajweed.
