Quran classes for families in Sandwell
Sandwell is made up of six Black Country towns, and about 13% of its residents, almost 46,000 people, are Muslim according to the 2021 census. Smethwick has the largest and longest-established community, with Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian-heritage families, and there are growing communities in West Bromwich, Oldbury and Tipton.
Sandwell borders Birmingham, where our registered address is, but our lessons are online only: there is no centre to visit. What that means for a family in Smethwick or Tipton is no drive, no parking and no waiting outside a class in the rain.
Panjabi is the most common community language in Sandwell after English, spoken by both Muslim and Sikh families, with Urdu and Bengali also widely used.
Many Sandwell households include grandparents who speak Panjabi or Urdu and children who prefer English. Teachers who explain in Urdu are available, and lessons can switch between Urdu and English so the whole family can follow.
Classes for kids in Sandwell, one child at a time
In a busy evening madrasa, a child may read for only a few minutes. In a one-to-one lesson they read for the whole 30 minutes, with every mistake corrected as it happens. Most Sandwell children start with Noorani Qaida and move on to reading the Quran fluently.
