Durood Ibrahim in Arabic and English
As taught by the Prophet ﷺ
“O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
The Companions asked how to send blessings on him, and he taught them these words (Sahih al-Bukhari 3370).

- Abundantly on Fridays (Sunan Abi Dawud 1047).
- At the start and end of du‘a: ‘Umar said a du‘a is held back until blessings are sent on the Prophet ﷺ (Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 486).
- After the adhan, before asking for al-wasilah for him (Sahih Muslim 384).
Learning it
Durood Ibrahim is usually learned after Al-Fatihah and the tashahhud, because it completes the prayer. Break it into its two halves (salli, then barik), which mirror each other. See how to pray salah, how to make dua and our daily duas.
Frequently asked questions
